A CV, or Curriculum Vitae, is an expanded resume for those in the teaching profession. Where the resume is focused on brevity and your work experience, a CV demands more detail and specifically your education, teaching experience, research, presentations, working papers, consulting, and honors & awards.

Almost all CVs these important sections:

Tips and Tactics

  • Leave off personal information such as marital status, religious affiliation, children, age, race, sexual orientation, or anything else which is unnecessary for a CV.

  • Tailor your CV to your audience. Focus your CV on research and experiences which relate to the position you are applying for.

  • A CV for an ABD or recent PhD should be two-three pages, longer for experienced candidates. We generally recommend a maximum of 10 pages.
